Data Sources, Licenses, and Attributions
Pantree uses data, recipes, and images from third-party and public sources. This page identifies those sources, explains how Pantree uses them, and provides applicable license and attribution information.
Product data
Open Food Facts
Pantree uses data from the Open Food Facts database for product search and barcode lookup. Pantree maintains a local copy of the relevant Open Food Facts data on its own systems.
Pantree obtains Open Food Facts data from bulk exports rather than sending Pantree product searches to the Open Food Facts API. Searches against the local copy are processed on Pantree's systems.
Modifications to Open Food Facts data
Pantree does not use the complete Open Food Facts database. The local copy is filtered to United States products with a valid barcode and a usable product name. Pantree also excludes certain records that are not appropriate or useful for the catalog, including records with abusive or meaningless product names and cannabis or CBD products.
Section 4.6 of the ODbL requires access to either the derivative database or a machine-readable file describing the alterations used to create it. Pantree provides a machine-readable alteration file free of charge on request. The file describes the filtering method and record-level exclusions used to create Pantree's copy. To request it, email support@usepantree.com.
The alteration file identifies excluded records by barcode and removal category. It does not reproduce abusive or offensive product names when the text itself is the reason for removal.
USDA FoodData Central
Pantree also uses USDA FoodData Central for barcode and product-name lookups. FoodData Central is maintained by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Its data is published under the CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication. Pantree identifies FoodData Central as a data source in accordance with USDA's requested attribution practice.

Some recipes originate from state extension programs or other credited contributors. When a recipe has separate attribution or source information, Pantree retains and displays that information with the recipe.
Recipes created with AI assistance are identified in the app as Generated recipe (Pantree). Meal suggestions generated on request from a user's pantry are also identified as generated content.
Images and photography
Pexels photography
Pantree uses certain photographs from Pexels under the Pexels License. The Pexels License itself does not require attribution. Recipe photographs obtained through the Pexels API are subject to the Pexels API Guidelines, which require a prominent link to Pexels; Pantree provides that link on this page and credits the individual photographer on the recipe.
AI-generated images
Pantree also uses AI-generated images to illustrate recipes. Most recipe images are AI-generated and are identified as such in the app.
AI-generated recipe images are illustrative only. They are not photographs of the recipe being prepared and may not precisely represent the appearance of the finished dish.
Rights, corrections, and removal requests
If you believe content displayed by Pantree infringes your copyright or other rights, or if you identify a product record that should be removed or corrected, contact support@usepantree.com.
For third-party photography, Pantree retains source information sufficient to identify the photograph, photographer, and original source where available so that rights and removal requests can be reviewed.
